Ester Četiškaitė

Ester Četiškaitė (1922–?) was born in Panevėžys into the family of Rafaelis Četiškis and Jentė Klasteraitė. In 1931, she enrolled in a private Hebrew-language gymnasium in Panevėžys. She graduated from the gymnasium in 1939 and, in September of the same year, applied for admission to the Philology Department of the Faculty of Humanities of Vytautas Magnus University. According to the archives of Vilnius University, in September of the following year, she submitted a second application requesting a transfer to the Chemistry and Physics Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vytautas Magnus University. Her request was denied, and on 1 October, she again applied for admission to the Philology Department at the Faculty of Humanities of Vytautas Magnus University, explaining that she had lacked the financial means to study the previous year. She was eventually admitted and began studies in Russian language and literature at Vilnius University (in 1940, the Faculty of Humanities of Vytautas Magnus University was transferred to Vilnius). She studied there until 19 September 1941, when she was expelled from the university in accordance with an order issued on 17 September 1941 by the Department of Higher Education under the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the National Socialist authorities. No further information on the fate of Ester Četiškaitė is known.
