
Nachemijas Gendelis

Nachemijas Gendelis (1910–?) was born in Liškiava, Alytus County. In 1931, he enrolled in the private Jewish Gymnasium in Vilkaviškis and graduated in 1933. On 26 September 1937, he applied for admission to the Mathematics Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vytautas Magnus University. Since he had not passed the Lithuanian language entrance examination, he requested to be enrolled as an unclassified student. A few days later, on 10 October, he submitted a request for transfer from the Mathematics Department to the Physics and Chemistry Department.
After passing the Lithuanian language examination on 22 February 1938, he became a full student. In 1940, he was transferred to Vilnius University, and on 19 September 1941, in accordance with an order issued on 17 September 1941 by the Department of Higher Education under the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the National Socialist authorities, he was expelled from the Chemistry Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. No further information on the fate of Nachemijas Gendelis is known.
