Leiba-Dovydas Heršmanas

Leiba-Dovydas Heršmanas (1911–?) was born in Vilnius into a family of civil servants. In 1928, he graduated from F. Velerie  Gymnasium, and in 1936, from the Physics Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Stephen Báthory University. In 1937, under the supervision of Prof. Wacław Dziewulski, he began experimental research entitled “Optical Constants and Electrical Conductivity of Thin Cadmium Layers”, but the work was discontinued following the Professor’s death in 1938. In 1939, he was invited to work as a junior assistant at the Physics Department, where he remained until the closure of Stephen Báthory University. In September 1940, he was appointed physics teacher at Secondary School No. 13 in Vilnius. In November 1940, he joined the Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Vilnius University as a junior assistant. In 1941, he was promoted to an assistant in the same department. He was included in the list of Vilnius University employees dismissed under Order No. 30 of 27 June 1941 issued by the Commissioner for Educational Affairs,  which was subordinate to the National Socialists. No further information on the fate of Leiba-Dovydas Heršmanas is known.
