Vladas Lazersonas

Vladimiras (Vladas) Lazersonas (1889–1945) – head of the Department of Psychology of Faculty of Humanities at Vilnius University in 1940–1941, was unquestionably one of the most prominent psychologists, a founder of the science and practice of psychology in the interwar Lithuania. The academic career of the future professor started in Zurich University where in 1911 he received a doctoral degree in philosophy. He lectured and carried out research in different fields covering experimental psychology, psychophysiology, as well as pedagogy and child psychology. His and his disciples’ works influenced significantly the development of the science of psychology in the postwar Lithuania. During the Nazi regime, following the Order of the Governor of Education Affairs of Vilnius and Vilnius’ Region professor was fired from his position at Vilnius University on the 22 of June 1941. He died in the Dachau concentration camp (Germany).
