Kirš Segalsohnas

Kirš Segalsohnas (1919–?) was born in Kaunas into the family of pharmacist Ilja Segalsohn and Anna Gruzineraitė. In 1939, he graduated from Klaipėda Vytautas Magnus State Gymnasium. On 1 September 1939, he applied for admission to the Medical Department at the Faculty of Medicine of Vytautas Magnus University, but was not admitted “due to a lack of available places”. On 5 October of the same year, he submitted another application to study in the Biology Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vytautas Magnus University and began his studies there. On 21 August 1940, he applied to be transferred to the Medical Department at the Faculty of Medicine of the same university, but his application was once again rejected for the same reason – “lack of available places”. On 18 January 1941, he submitted a request for a transfer from the Biology Department to the Chemistry Department, but this request was also denied. On 19 September 1941, he was expelled from the university in accordance with an order issued on 17 September 1941 by the Department of Higher Education under the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the National Socialist authorities. No further information on the fate of Kirš Segalsohnas is known.
