Gražina Šlapikaitė

Gražina Šlapikaitė (1925–1991) was born in the village of Pakalniškiai, Kaunas County. After completing secondary school, she enrolled at Vytautas Magnus University to study chemistry. After two years, she moved to Vilnius and, in 1947, applied to continue her chemistry studies at Vilnius State University from the third semester. She was admitted, but in 1950, was expelled from the university for “concealing her anti-Soviet background”. According to the database “Lithuanians in Siberia”, it can be assumed that her father, Pranas Šlapikas, was deported to the Komi region in 1944, and that she may have concealed this fact. In 1960, she submitted a request to have her study documents issued to her husband, Jurgis Burnys, as they were needed for her studies at the Northwestern Correspondence Polytechnic Institute in Leningrad.
