Leonas Strugačas

Leonas Strugačas (1912–?) was born in Ašmena, Vilnius County. In 1930, he graduated from Ašmena Gymnasium, and in 1935, from the Prague Polytechnical Institute, specialising in chemical engineering. He carried out research at the Department of Enzyme Chemistry and Food Technology of the Prague Polytechnical Institute. In 1937, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences for his research work “Assimilation of Nitrates and Alcohol by Yeast”. From 1937 to 1939, he worked as an assistant at the Department of Enzyme Chemistry and Food Technology of the Warsaw Polytechnic Institute. In the summer of 1939, he did not return to Warsaw after the holidays due to the outbreak of war. In 1939–1940, he worked as a researcher in Vilnius. From 1940 to 1941, he was employed as a teacher and chemistry assistant at the Vilnius State Technical School. He joined the Technical Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Vilnius University as a junior assistant in 1940. A year later, in 1941, he was promoted to an assistant at the same faculty. On 27 June 1941, he was dismissed under Order No. 30 issued by the Commissioner for Educational Affairs, which was subordinate to the National Socialist authorities. No further information on the fate of Leonas Levas Strugačas is known.
